On July 7, 2021, Bethesda Softworks and Xbox donated $10,000 to the Humane society in honor of Dogmeat. On June 27, 2021, Fallout 4 's senior game designer Joel Burgess confirmed via Twitter that River had died. In Fallout 4, Dogmeat's motion capture was done by a German Shepherd named River.
